The cloning bay can be a useful method for upgrading your crews fighting ability. Killing off the entire crew and then killing as they are resurrected with superior fighters can be a good way to level up fighting.

The clone bay can revive crew members lost in certain events:

Brings dead crew members back to life at the cost of skill experience. Heals crew members between FTL jumps using partial-cloning technology.

A ship cannot have both a Clone Bay and a Medbay. Purchasing a Clone Bay in a store will replace the Medbay, and vice versa, even when at maximum system capacity. Upgrades do not carry over from the Medbay to the Clone Bay.

Although having a Clone Bay allows you to put your crew members in life-threatening situations without fear of permanently losing them, caution should still be used as crew members will die permanently if it is powered off or destroyed unless your ship has a Backup DNA Bank, and it cannot replace crew removed by other means (eg. boarders on a ship that jumped away). Provided, the Clone Bay can usually replace crew members killed by random events, but there are still a select few from which they cannot be brought back, thus it is advisable not to be too reckless in its use.

If multiple crew members have died, they will be put in a queue to be resurrected in the order that they died.

If the enemy ship has a powered Clone Bay when boarding, once all enemy crew members are dead, the battle will continue until their Clone Bay is destroyed. This can be especially deadly when combined with upgraded Doors that impede your boarding party's access to destroying the Clone Bay, so it is a good idea to knock out the Clone Bay with weapons-fire before you send in your boarders, and then teleport them into the destroyed system's room, to defend it from would-be repairmen.

The cloning bay can be a useful method for upgrading your crews fighting ability. Killing off the entire crew and then killing as they are resurrected with superior fighters can be a good way to level up fighting.
