Zoltan Shield is an augmentation that grants energy shielding which protects ship's standard shields, hull, and crew from any damage until it is depleted. Zoltan Shields are also called Zoltan Super Shields, Zoltan Energy Shield or just Super Shields.

"An unexplained technology creates this nearly impenetrable shield. Only the energy outbursts from an FTL engine are powerful enough to recharge it."

  • Zoltan Shield has 5 points of energy shielding that absorbs any kind of damage from all weapon types and hazards.
  • Ion weapons deal double damage to Zoltan Shields.
  • Beam weapons deal damage to Zoltan Shields in 2 ticks, thus doubling their base damage.
    • Damage is unaffected by how many rooms are 'hit'.
    • Anti-Bio Beam, Fire Beam, and Artillery Beam deal 2 damage in total.
    • Aiming Hull Beam at systemless rooms will not increase damage to Zoltan Shields.
    • Glaive Beam is the only beam weapon that can remove Zoltan Shield in one swipe and still potentially damage the ship.
  • Anti-Ship Beam Drone I and Anti-Ship Fire Drone deal 1 damage, while Anti-Ship Beam Drone II deals 2 damage.
  • If Zoltan Shield is destroyed while the swipe is not over yet, the beam will continue its swipe against regular shields or ship's hull (if regular shields are suppressed).
  • Fire Bomb, Crystal Lockdown Bomb, Healing Burst, and Repair Burst have no effect on Zoltan Shields.
  • Upon making an FTL jump, Zoltan Shields are completely recharged.
    • Enemy Zoltan Shields are replenished upon revisiting the beacon.
  • Zoltan Shields prevent boarding, hacking, and mind control. Exceptions:
    • Boarding events (including those with enemy ship present; only initial boarding party bypasses the Zoltan Shields).
    • Zoltan Shield Bypass augmentation allows crew and bomb teleportation and mind control to work through Zoltan Shields. (Advanced Edition Content)
  • Boarding and hacking drones will be destroyed upon contact with a Zoltan Shield and won't deal any damage to it.
  • Can be acquired by any ship through the Zoltan Cruiser unlock event, even if the Zoltan Cruiser has already been unlocked or the augmentation was sold or swapped away in case of an item (augmentation) capacity overflow.
  • All Zoltan Cruisers start with this augmentation.
  • Phase 3 of the Rebel Flagship uses a more powerful version of Zoltan Shield (12 health points).
  • Shield Overcharger drone will regularly add 1 point of Zoltan Shield over time. It takes longer to add layers depending on how many layers are already present, going from 8s at 0 layers up to 20s at 4 layers. (Advanced Edition Content)
  • Pulsar waves cannot penetrate Zoltan Shield, but will quickly strip it.
    • Zoltan Shield completely absorbs the ion pulse, taking 3 or 4 ion damage and protecting all systems.
    • A single layer of Zoltan Shield is enough to block an ion pulse, making Shield Overcharger drone very effective.
      • However, Zoltan Shield will not protect a ship that lacks a Shields system - the ion pulse will ignore Zoltan Shield (this is likely a bug). Hence, only Stealth Cruisers in their initial configuration are affected.
  • Reverse Ion Field augmentation will completely protect a Zoltan Shield from all sources of ion damage with 2 or more stacked augments; one augmentation provides 50% chance to resist ion damage.
    • There is a bug when Zoltan Shields resist damage from an ion projectile: if you don't have a regular shield bubble up, the resisted ion shot will pass through Zoltan Shields and hit a room anyway.
  • Against solar flares, Zoltan Shields work exactly the same as normal shields, and they don't provide any additional protection when used along with regular shields.
